Free Online PDF Text Comparison: A Page-by-Page Contract Example
Use text comparison when the question is whether extractable wording changed. Diff Master aligns pages by page number and marks added, removed, or modified lines without evaluating layout.
DOWNLOADABLE CASE
Vendor change order: three clauses that alter approval risk
Fictional, repository-owned files. No personal, customer, or production data.
CHANGES YOU CAN VERIFY
Start with the source files.
- Payment due date: 30 calendar days → 15 calendar days
- Cancellation notice: 30 calendar days → 45 calendar days
- Liability cap: $25,000 → $40,000
ACTUAL DIFF MASTER RESULT
Compare the evidence to the claim.

WHAT THE RESULT PROVES
A bounded conclusion.
- The first page contains the three reviewable wording changes.
- The second page remains available as unchanged context.
- The result is tied to the exact original and revised files above.
When text comparison is the right evidence
A contract review begins with a narrow question: did the wording change? Text differences is designed for that question. It extracts the text exposed by each PDF page, compares the resulting lines, and keeps both versions visible.
That evidence is stronger than reading two documents in separate tabs because the changed wording stays attached to its page and surrounding lines. It is also deliberately narrower than a visual review: a matching sentence can still use a different font, position, or image.
Read the contract result
The files describe a fictional facilities telemetry change order. They contain no customer, personal, or production data. Only three business fields differ, so every highlighted line has a clear review consequence.
| Field | Original | Revised | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|---|
| Payment term | Net 30 calendar days | Net 15 calendar days | Cash leaves the buyer sooner. |
| Cancellation notice | 30 calendar days | 45 calendar days | The exit window becomes longer. |
| Liability cap | $25,000 | $40,000 | The maximum stated exposure increases. |
What the result does—and does not—establish
The result establishes that extractable text differs at those lines in the compared files. It does not decide whether the revised clauses are acceptable, enforceable, or semantically equivalent. Those decisions still belong to the reviewer.
If a scanned page exposes no text, Text differences cannot invent it. Visual differences can still compare rendered appearance, but Diff Master does not perform OCR.
TRY THE SAME FILES
Reproduce the result.
- Open PDF Compare and keep Text differences selected.
- Choose the original vendor change order on the left and the revised copy on the right.
- Select Compare PDFs, review page 1, then confirm page 2 remains aligned by page number.
LIMITS THAT MATTER
Do not extend the result beyond the tool.
- No OCR. A scanned page without extractable text can be unavailable in Text differences.
- Pages align by page number; an inserted page does not cause later pages to be semantically renumbered.
- Each PDF is limited to 50 MB and 150 pages.
- Text comparison does not prove layout, visual, semantic, or legal equivalence.
